my last journey through russia has lead me from st. petersburg to moscow and volgograd ( june 2002 ).the state of being only a short time at one place and the look at foreign places from this perspective stands in the foreground of my photographic work. from the photo-series that has evolved during the trip I chose a couple of photographs which I have taken in saint petersburg. the common tussian term "posmotrim" - that can mean "let´s see" as well as "we are on a sightseeing trip" - refers to my own expectations as well as to the photo- graphic and touristic history of popular sights that I visited. a striking example is the view on the square in front of the winter palace in petersburg - in the fore- ground the bare foot of a seemingly giant facade sculpture of the New Eremitage. it is the view which "live photographer" boris ignatovich introduced on one of his shots in 1929, and since then it has been re-photographed uncountable times.
